ACES celebrates 20th annual conference with record numbers

The American Copy Editors Society welcomed a record number of attendees Thursday as the organization celebrated 20 years of championing editors by opening the 2016 national conference.

Preliminary figures indicate the 2016 attendance will top 650 people.

The ACES 2016 opening session began with words from Bill Connolly, retired senior editor at the New York Times, who gave a brief historical perspective on the organization. He was followed by ACES President Teresa Schmedding who delivered the State of ACES address amidst a plethora of reasons to celebrate.

The result of the Board of Directors’s hard work over the past year was demonstrated by the sheer numbers. In fact, in one year, the organization saw membership grow from 1,373 to 1,803 — an increase of about 32 percent.
